Norway and Sweden will receive the EU funds for the conservation of the endangered Arctic fox.

The transnational project has a budget of 35 million NOK and receive money from the European Regional Development Fund, reported NRK news.

– It means a lot to get these funds. Now we get more done in the regions and can use more resources on education, information and initiatives around the Arctic fox, says senior adviser Jan Paul Bolstad in Environment Directorate.

Directorate cooperates with County Administrative Board in Jämtlands län about the project to preserve foxes.

The goal is to get up stocks in Trøndelag, Nordland, Jämtland and Västerbotten. The project started in 2010 and can now continue until 2019.

– The cooperation between Norwegian and Swedish supervised people been increased in areas with less mountainous. We’ve got a joint plan to manage these animals throughout Scandinavia, and it is very important, says Bolstad.

The Arctic fox has long been one of the most endangered species in Scandinavia and before the project was started, it was completely extinct in some areas.

– In Lierne municipality there was no arctic foxes left but eventually they get them back. The entire project has shown very good results, says Bolstad.
