Facebook has sent a letter in which they thank Prime Minister Erna Solberg for the commitment she showed the online giant appealing to them to not remove the image of the “napalm girl ‘.
– Thank you for helping us make this right, wrote Sheryl Sandberg, who is managing director for Facebook in the letter, which TV2 received from the Prime Minister.
Sandberg wrote that the image “Terror of War,” which shows a girl running from napalm bombing during the Vietnam War, is still an important reminder of the war.
Facebook has recently received considerable attention – especially in Norway – because of the network blocking the iconic image because it contained nudity.
– These are difficult decisions, and we do not always initially make correct choices. We are always working to consider the interests – and safety – of such a large and global society.
Even with clear rules Facebook is reviewing millions of posts each week. Nevertheless, we intend to make this process better. We are committed to listening to our community and its developments on issues, writes Sheryl Sandberg.
– I think it was important to contribute to the discussion, and it certainly demonstrates that one can change the attitude of a large company.
They experienced this as quite an uncomfortable situation, Solberg said in an interview with Good Morning Norway on TV2.
