Although the number of fines for illegal use of mobile phones in cars has fallen in the past five years, the Traffic and alarm Police (UP) fears that there will be an increase when the youth of today get behind the wheel.
In recent years, the number of fines for illegal use of mobile phones has decreased from almost 21,000 in 2010 to nearly 17,700 in 2015, NRK writes.
– Although the figures for fines has declined slightly in recent years, my impression is certainly not that people have become better at leaving the mobile phone alone at when they drive, unfortunately, the head of UP Runar Karlsen says.
A survey conducted by YouGov for Codan insurance, revealed that two out of three use their mobiles when they drive.
– Smart phones provide new opportunities, and it’s become a habit to use them all the time, says Karlsen.
– This especially applies to the younger generations. They are even more avid users of the mobile phones than my generation, so I think we are heading towards a negative trend, he adds.
According to Safe Traffic 29 people died in traffic due to mobile use in cars between 2005 and 2013. They share the concerns of the head of UP.
