Approximately 9,000 family immigrants so far this year – 3,000 fewer than last year

The Immigration Directorate (UDI) has so far granted 9,235 applications for family reunification in Norway for citizens from countries outside the EU and the EEA.

This is a decline from 12,331 family immigration permits at the same time last year.

UDI figures also include establishment with a family member in Norway, ie marriage.

Individuals with Indian and Syrian citizenship top the year’s list of 836 and 835 family immigrants in the first ten months of the year.

According to Statistics Norway, there are almost 16,000 people in Norway with immigrant backgrounds from India. About a third of this group was born in Norway. By comparison, about 30,000 people from Syria now live in Norway, of which 2,500 were born in Norway.

In total, immigration has been granted for people from 100 different countries, but the numbers are three-digits for only 22 countries.
