Five-metre long snake in for a health check

A five-metre long ‘reticulated python’ from the ‘Dyreparken’ in Kristiansand was taken in for a health check-up on Tuesday.

The snake, 22 years old and weighing 52 kilos, is the largest animal in the park. It had an inflammation in the upper parts of its nasal cavity which made it difficult to breathe.

To investigate the patient thoroughly, and take necessary samples, as well as to give it treatment, it was anesthetised. The snake slept throughout the treatment and woke up later in good form” said veterinarian and specialist for the animal department in the park, Rolf-Arne Ølberg.

The large snake woke up in the ‘Tåkeskog’, which is part of the jungle in Dyreparken.
