The Meteorological Department has issued a notice of local forest fire danger from Oslo to South Trondelag.

The Meteorological Department sent out an OBS notification of wildfire danger of Hordaland, Sogn og Fjordane, Møre og Romsdal and Sør-Trøndelag Sunday.

“Low rainfall, dehydration, and an easternly wind causes local high grass and heather fire danger until a rainfall of significance comes,” writes the Norwegian Meteorological Institute on its website.

“The eastern wind creates fast drying west of the watershed. On the ground, there are a lot of dry leaves.

“It does not take much to ignite fires,” said on-duty meteorologist Nina Larsgård to the newspaper Bergens Tidende.

A meteorologist in Storm, Mariann Aabrekk, thinks that wildfire danger could last a long time.
“We will get a little rain Monday, Tuesday, and perhaps Wednesday, but there’s still the eastern wind, and after that there will be hardly very much rain.”

There was a forest fire in Sogn Saturday which sparked the warning forecasts. The fire, which was reported in Lavik valley, north of Sognefjord, came at 14:54.

The fire developed quickly into a dangerous fire, and high winds made fire fighting difficult. By Saturday night, firefighters had calmed the issue.

A fire helicopter is in place and will assist if the fire flares up again Sunday.
