Norwegian authorities have charged four people for having bred and trained aggressive fighting dogs that are both dangerous and uncontrollable.

According to NRK, the Norwegian authorities believe that they have uncovered an environment which trained dogs to be dangerous hunting weapons.

Altogether four people have been charged in the case, two of them are a couple from Buskerud who last December had seized 14 dogs, the other two are a couple from Østfold.

– The breeders are training the dogs to be smarter so that they are creating dogs that are so ferocious that it becomes a form of blood sport, says the District Attorney Inge Svae-Grotli in ØKOKRIM.

Several of the dogs have been relocated or killed, with the consent of the owners. Most of the dogs are American bulldog, a breed that is legal in Norway, but that is not approved by the Norwegian Kennel Club.

Lawyer Morten Furuholmen who is representing the pair in Buskerud, says the owners deny that dogs are dangerous or a threat to humans.

– The dogs have been examined by highly competent animal experts, who perceive the dogs to be harmonious, well-trained and well-behaved, says Furuholmen to NRK.

Co-habiting couple from Østfold did not want to comment on the charges, but said through their Lawyer Hilde Ims that their dogs are harmless.
