A large commotion resulted in several passengers not being able to get off the train at Egersund Station Sunday evening. One of them was a mother who was stuck on the train, while her four year old stood on the platform.
The delayed train drove on after a brief stop, but five to six of the passengers who should ahve got off at Egersund could not.
The train continued on despite protests from the mother of the four year old left standing outside the train, stated the Stavanger Aftenblad newspaper.
At Brusand, roughly a quarter of the way from Egersund, his mother and the other passengers got off and caught a local train back. Meanwhile the mother had gotten hold of relatives who came to Egersund and took care of the four year old.
Liv Eggebø from NSB stated that the company does not want these events and they truly regret what happened.
Due to the large number of people on the platform, no conductors could see that the child was standing alone and did not know that her mother had gone back for luggage.
When the staff became aware of what had happened, the police were contacted, said Eggebø. An adult form the train looked after the child until an uncle came and waited with her until her mother was back in Egersund.
– We apologize for the inconvenience. Meanwhile, we recommend that passengers who must return on the train to retrieve the rest of their luggage should inform conductors about this, says Eggebø.
