Fraudsters send fake Netflix emails

Scammers claiming to be from the streaming service Netflix have sent out emails where users are asked to re-register.

At first glance, the sender of the email appears to be Netflix, writes Stavanger Aftenblad. It is designed with the graphical profile of the streaming service and titled in the subject as “Closed Netflix account.”

“As you requested, we have ended your Netflix subscription. This change takes effect on July 29th”, it says in the email that fraudsters have sent out.

Further down in the email a link is included to re-subscribe – leading to a page where you must enter your credit card information.

– Everything looked real. I expanded sender information, and saw that this was not from Netflix. The Web site address was also not a Netflix site, says one of those who have received the email.

This is not the first time the service’s brand has been abused by criminals. In February VG wrote about a similar email, where the recipient was warned that payment of their Netflix subscription had not gone through.

The streaming service has stated that they will never ask for your payment details via email.
