Freight train ignited fire in ten places along Bergensbanen

Night before Wednesday It has burned ten places along Bergensbanen. The reason is probably brake sparks from a freight train, according to Bane Nor.

– We have extinguished at least ten fires between Voss station and Ygre. The fires have been of different sizes. We have performed post fire extinguishing and soaked the ground. Now we will inspect along the line as far as the road goes, that is, all the way up to Upsete. Both cars and a water carrier participate in the inspection, says Deputy Manager in Voss Fire Services, Geir Ove Pedersen, to Bergens Tidende.

Operation Manager in the Police, Kjetil Øyri, says that they are now working to find out what has happened.

Bane Nor’s press service states that the fires are probably due to brake sparks from a freight train.

Bergensbanen was closed as a result of the fires, but just before 6 am on Wednesday, Bane Nor announces that the track is reopened and traffic is almost back to normal.

Some local trains are discontinued, while the night train from Oslo is delayed by one and a half hours.
