The Tax Administration reports that only half of the companies they believe are required to register for air passenger tax have signed up, according the newspaper VG.
– The Tax Administration is now sending out letters to 21 companies that we believe should be registered as liable for air passenger duty, but who have not registered, wrote Arvid Stokke, deputy director for special duties for the Tax Administration wrote in an email to VG.
The air passenger tax was introduced on the 1st of June this year. 290 million NOK was put into the Treasury on the 5th of September as a result of the disputed tax, the newspaper said.
Finance Minister Siv Jensen writes in response to the head of the industry committee in Parliament that this amount is as expected, but will increase as some businesses have been slow to report the taxes they owe.
It is unclear how many actually will pay the tax. Tax Administration has estimated that there are around 700 flights flying from Norwegian airports, but there are several businesses that are exempt from air passenger tax, the newspaper continued.
