Hareide will continue as the leader if negotiations collapse

KrF leader Knut Arild Hareide tells NRK that he is prepared to continue as party leader during government negotiations.

If the government negotiations collapse, Hareide maintains that he is ready to continue as a party leader of the Christian Democrats (KrF).

“Yes, if they do not find someone to lead, it’s only natural that I lead the constituents that may eventually go to other parties, but I respect the choice the party has made and I hope we succeed,” he told NRK on Saturday.

Saturday he was at home with his family, while KrF’s exploration delegation met. It is the deputies, Kjell Ingolf Ropstad and Olaug Bollestad, together with Erik Lunde and Jorunn Hallaråker, who are the official negotiators. They are now creating a plan for what the requirements are when they ask to join the government.

Hareide believes that the party should concentrate on combating poverty, climate change and family policies.

He does not want to say anything about a possible role as Minister of Development, Family or Climate Minister.

“It may be a good solution, but they are the ones who will decide the results,” says the KrF leader.

If KrF does not agree with the Conservatives (Høyre), Liberals (Venstre) and Progress Party (Frp), Hareide will continue as the head of a split party and lead in probes with Labour (Ap) and the Centre Party (Sp), backed by the minority in KrF.
