“After Donald Trump’s election victory, it is critical that the rest of the world shows that we will continue to combat climate change,” says climate minister Vidar Helgesen.

He acknowledges that international climate policy will encounter a serious setback if Trump makes good on his threat to withdraw the United States from Paris Agreement.
“It will be very negative. The US is the world’s largest economy and the world’s most influential nation,” says Helgesen to news agency NTB.
During the election campaign, Trump promised to “cancel” the Paris Agreement, remove American mitigation, and cease all support for UN efforts to combat global warming.
Helgesen emphasizes that we do not yet know which of these threats Trump will put into practice. And if he were to repeal the US climate, it is not certain that other countries would respond in kind.
“It is important to be very clear that the rest of the world will continue, regardless of what the United States does,” said climate change minister.
