Climate and Environment Minister Vidar Helgesen will travel next week to Congo to visit the rainforest and have meetings with the country’s authorities.
The visit lasts from Monday to Friday. Along the way Helgesen meet the prime minister, finance minister and environment minister of Congo, in addition to meetings with the World Bank, UN, private sector and civil society organizations.

Thursday and Friday he will visit communities in the rainforest in western Congo.
Congo has the world’s largest rainforest after Brazil, and Norway is now strengthening its efforts to preserve forests.

It is not easy, admits Helgesen.
– But these rainforests are important for the global climate and rainfall patterns in large parts of Africa that we must do what we can, he said.
