Ski Jump Tower at Holmenkollen lit up in green this weekend to mark the Paris Agreement on climate that took effect Friday.

– The Paris agreement is historic, and it means the world’s countries must work to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

It is a strong signal to industry and government that we are heading towards a low-emission, said Prime Minister Erna Solberg to NTB news agency.

Friday afternoon, the lights in Holmenkollen were lit to mark the Paris Agreement that formally becomes international law.

– We know that climate change means less snowy winters, but with the Paris Agreement we and the world shall do everything we can to reduce global warming, said climate and environment minister Vidar Helgesen.

The purpose of the agreement is to keep global warming below 2 degrees and try to limit temperature rises to 1,5 degrees.

All in all, 92 countries have ratified the agreement.
