Norwegians will from this week receive information about the risk of antibiotic resistance related to health treatments received outside the Nordic region.
The information will be sent to those seeking prior approval of reimbursement for planned health treatments, the newspaper Nationen reveals.
– We are going to inform people about the risk of antibiotic resistance, and to ask those who go for treatment within the European Union to consult with their general practitioner for an assessment of the forthcoming proceedure and possibly discuss the place where they plan to go , and if they want more advice and information, says Health Minister Bent Høie.
He is also giving notice of and information campaign starting this autumn.
According to the newspaper, more Norwegians take treatments such as prostate surgery, treatment for atrial fibrillation and dental treatments outside the Nordic countries, where the use of antibiotics is higher.
