UDI considering to revoke the citizenship of 500 people because they may have provided incorrect information to the authorities.

– UDI is currently considering to revoke Norwegian citizenship in approximately 500 cases.

It is not possible to predict how many people will lose Norwegian citizenship because of these considerations, writes Immigration and Integration Minister Sylvi Listhaug (FRP) in a reply to Parliament.

Listhaug states that a total of 135 people have been deprived of their Norwegian citizenship since 2012.

Scant half of these decisions have been taken this year.

Only nine of those who have lost citizenship, registered returned to their homeland. Listhaug notes that several may have left Norway without reporting to the authorities.

– It is therefore difficult to say exactly how many people are left in Norway after receiving revoked citizenship.

In response shows that UDI lacks precise statistics on how many people have lost their citizenship, and that there is some uncertainty at the numbers Listhaug refers.
