A 21 year old man has been  sentenced to 120 days imprisonment by the crown court for crimes including receiving stolen property through his computer in the so-called Snapchat case.

The man is sentenced for having downloaded and shared over 35,000 images which were published without the consent of those who were depicted. Many of the images stemmed from Snapchat. This is the first time the courts have handled such a case, and the verdict is the first of its kind where the section for receiving stolen property  has been used.

“Making photographs and images public, without the consent of those being pictured, is a growing social problem. For those affected, especially where intimate material is being published, making them public constitutes  a serious violation of integrity, ” Eidsivating court writes in its verdict.
