The Bergen District Court has sentenced a 33-year-old man to ten years of custody for sexual assault against seven children at a kindergarten.

The 33-year-old faces a verdict of ten years in custody, with a minimum of six years and eight months, which was announced on Thursday. The 33-year-old is also required to pay a sum of 750,000 kroner in compensation for the aggrieved. On the same day, it was made apparent that he appealed the sentencing, according to NRK.

The 33-year-old is convicted of various accounts of sexual abuse against seven boys from two kindergartens in Bergen. He was revealed in 2016 when a 4-year-old boy told his parents that he was abused.

The accused acknowledged penalties for 22 assaults against five of the seven boys he was charged with abusing.

“I am satisfied that the court agrees with me in my view of the guilt and the punishment,” states Attorney Magne Kvamme Sylta.

The court considered the combination of the man’s paedophilic disposition, his low level self-control and the possibility that the man might re-offend after being serving an ordinary prison sentence, making it necessary to sentence him to custody.

NRK has not been able to get a statement from the the man’s defender, lawyer Einar Raaen. He argued against the prosecutor’s claim that custody was required.
