This year’s time can easily be associated with private life, pointed out the king in his lunch speech during a state visit to Finland.

It is the royal couple’s third state visit to Finland, the last were in 1993 and 2007. After the welcome ceremonies and several meetings there was lunch, where King Harald thanked for food in a small speech. He pointed out that the first visit was in the spring, the next summer and this year’s visit was during the fall:

– The seasons – from spring to early autumn – is probably completely random. Otherwise, surely they could easily give associations with our own life, he philosophized.

In the state visit were Foreign Minister Brende, Minister of Industry Monica Mæland, Health Minister Bent Høie and Defence Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide.

The visit will largely revolve around the future solutions for health, knowledge and economy, with strong emphasis on research and technology. The possibilities for increased cooperation should be explored.

The first day state visit steeped official welcoming ceremonies and meetings, as well as wreath-laying ceremonies and official dinner.

After the initial ceremony the royal couple and the Finnish presidential couple saluted, President Sauli Niinistö and his wife Jenni Haukio, from the balcony, something the crowd knew to appreciate.

– The Queen and I keep coming back to Helsinki and get the same sensation every time. Common to all visits have been the warm reception we have received in the City of Helsinki, the king said in his speech lunch afterwards.
