Kripos: has ten people who they will examine, in pursuit of Syrian war criminals hiding in Norway.
– These ten are not suspects, but are ten people that we think are interesting, we will ascertain whether there is a basis for initiating the investigation, said Sigurd Andreas Moe, Head of the Section for international crimes (SIF) in the Criminal Police unit to the newspaper VG.
Kripos confirms that they have reason to believe that a “significant” number of war criminals are in the country.
These people remain in hiding among legitimate asylum seekers and are therefore very difficult to identify.
– I must emphasize that we think very few who come from Syria to Norway, have blood on their hands and can go under the category of war criminals, but we know that the scope of war crimes are violent and that atrocities in Syria are many, said Moe.
Finding evidence is one of the difficult tasks NCIS faces, and many resources are used to screen out war criminals. Moe points out that they do not fix a general suspicion against Syrian men.
– Investigating these matters is also about fairness and safety assessment. We do not want murderers or people behind serious crimes to go free in the Norwegian society, said Moe.
