Petroleum and Energy Minister Tord Lien is smiling broadly after discussing Norwegian gas with the climate and energy Commissioner of EU Miguel Arias Cañete in Brussels Friday.
– I must say it looks very promising in terms of maintaining Norwegian gas exports to the EU at a high level in the upcoming years, Lien said. He points out that Norway last year exported 115 billion cubic meters of gas to the EU, which was a new record.
The assurances that Norwegian gas is part of the climate solution for an EU that wants to get away from using coal, is one of the reasons that Lien is so satisfied after meeting with Arias Cañete.
The gas strategy will on the whole be in line with our recommendations, the oil minister says.
Among other things, he points to the necessity of strengthening the infrastructure for gas deliveries and that the idea that the EU should buy Norwegian gas collected, are shelved.
– Arias Cañete has also assured the European gas market will be strong even after 2030, says Lien.
