A Norwegian man in his 30s died in a base jump accident from the Gammelurkollen mountain in Sunndal at Nordmøre on Saturday.

The base jumper was following four comrades who jumped from the 1,384 meter high mountain. Two jumped first, then the last two comrades jumped.

“For one of these, the parachute wasn’t triggered and he was declared dead on site,” said Per Åge Ferstad, Operations Manager in Møre and Romsdal Police District to VG newspaper.

All the testimony was heard on Saturday so that the police were aware of the circumstances and the reason why the parachute was not triggered.

The police were notified of the accident at 14.18 on Saturday afternoon. It was a comrade of the last base jumper who reported that his mate was dead as a result of a base jump,’’ reported Romsdals Budstikke newspaper.

Operations Manager Per Åge Ferstad said the police would contact competent personnel to investigate the accident.

The deceased man was Norwegian, but not resident in Møre and Romsdal. His relatives have been notified.
