A 48-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after he broke into a residence and attacked a woman with a knife and crowbar in April,  NRK news reports.

The woman, who is also in her 40s, suffered serious and potentially fatal injuries when the man hit her in the head with the crowbar and stabbed her in the neck, according to the broadcaster.

The man admits to the violent act, but denies criminal responsibility for attempted murder.
– My client does not plead guilty to that because he believes he had no intention of carrying out that action,  the man’s defender Truls Eirik Waale says.

The woman was also approached by the man four days earlier. He then threatened to kill her and, among other things, held a knife to her throat. The two knew each other, and are both known to the police.

The 48-year-old has to meet in Larvik District Court on 3 and 4 November.
