Man charged with rape of a teenager in Tonsberg

A man in his 20s is charged with the rape of a girl in her teens in a hotel in Tønsberg Saturday night.

– The girl testified about the rape. Police now assume that the abuse happened in a hotel in Tonsberg, said duty lawyer Lene Skei Strand to Tønsberg Blad. The man denies culpability.

The girl who is in her late teens, is from Tonsberg area. The man is living in eastern Norway.

– The man acknowledges having had sexual contact with the girl, but he denies culpability for rape, said police attorney Torje Arneson to NTB Sunday afternoon.

Police said there is no information indicating that they knew each other from before. The girl and the accused have became acquainted during the night of Saturday. According to police the rape occurred at 3:30am at a hotel in the city center.

The police do not want to go into details on age and residence of the victim or the accused. Sunday was spent interviewing police witnesses and crime technicians have conducted a crime scene investigation in the hotel room where the assault allegedly took place.

The girl reported the incident to police early Sunday morning and has been examined by a rape centre.
