Miljøpartiet De Grønne (MDG- The Green Party) does not want a car-free center in towns, but aims at more people choosing electric cars,” said spokesperson, Arild Hermstad.

The Green Party (MDG) has a goal of car-free cities and removal of parking spaces in Oslo. But in the village, the car is the backbone of many communities, and will continue to be for a very long time,” said the new spokesperson to Aftenposten newspaper.

“We do not go for a car-free centre in the villages. It would mean to let down the village, “says Hermstad.

He believes that many can benefit from using electric cars in the villages, but the party realises that some will choose diesel.

‘’And that’s okay. But the development is now so fast that in seven to eight years you can buy a long-range electric car that does not cost too much.’’

The party has for a long time had a vision of electrifying the districts and building more charging stations.

“We mean, as a minimum, we must build 1,000 charging stations a year – across the country,” he said.
