More 18,000 were granted permanent residence last year

In 2015 a total of 18 431 individuals were granted  a permanent residence permit in Norway, according to figures from the Directorate of Immigration (UDI).

An overview published on UDI’s website Saturday shows the types of citizenship that people have, and what were the proportion of people who were granted their application among those who tried to get a citizenship.

The greatest number are people from Somalia. There are  totally 3,087 persons from Somalia in Norway in 2015. Eritrea is in second place with a total of 2,406 people.On third place comes Afghanistan with 1,141 people.

A total of 354 Syrian refugees got a permanent residence permit in Norway last year.

With  a permanent residence permit, you can stay and work in Norway indefinitely. You also have extra protection against a deportation.
