A Frenchman who had inherited a large house from a deceased relative, got more than he had hoped for when he discovered 100 kilograms of gold hidden in several places in the dwelling.

– It was under furniture, under piles of clothes, the bathroom, even, says the local auctioneer Nicolas Fierfort who met AFP confirming the news that was first printed in the local newspaper La Depeche.

Fierfort assumes that the gold has a total value of 3.5 million euros, nearly 32 million kroner. The gold was “very well hidden,” he adds.

The newcomer resident found gold when he began to move around the furniture in the house he had inherited. First he found a tin box with gold coins, bolted behind some furniture.

And so he found more, tucked into different places in the residence.
The gold was purchased in 1950 and 1960, according to authenticity documents found in the residence.

The gold has already been sold to French and foreign buyers.

The real gold mine, may be what French tax authorities are sitting on, writes La Depeche.

The owner must pay 45 percent of the value of the inheritance tax, and in addition he must pay extra taxes for the next three years because he had listed gold found on his tax return.
