62 municipalities and districts have been granted funding for projects to prevent and combat radicalization and violent extremism. The funding is part of the government’s stimulus package against terrorism.

– Early intervention in the local environment is crucial to the success of preventing radicalization and violent extremism. So it is gratifying to see that many municipalities are working on a wide range of measures,  Justice and Emergency Minister Anders Anundsen says in a press release.

Grants funds totaling NOK 10 million will be allocated to 17 different projects. Many of these are based on already established models, and each of this year’s applicants have had their applications fully or partially granted.

Experiences from the local projects will contribute to the development of new initiatives at the national level. Among the recipients receiving the most support are Trondheim, 30 municipalities in Agder and the districts of Alna and Grünerløkka in Oslo  .

– This year’s applications are marked by an increased expertise in the prevention of radicalization, says Anundsen.
The government stimulus package against terrorism was launched in connection with the revised national budget last year.
