Until now it has been forbidden to hoist soccer flags or rainbow coloured flags on municipal flagpoles. But now the government will rescind the strict law.
According to Adresseavisen Local Government offices sent the proposal on Wednesday for comment.

‘As regards the flag law, it is envisaged that city councils may adopt regulations wherein they can mark events with, for example, the Rosenborg flag on big days, or other sports flags at special events.

This will be determined on a local basis; we are confident that elected officials will make good decisions’, said the municipal Minister, Jan Tore Sanner.

He simultaneously gave assurances that there will be freedom to fly various flags except on the 17th of May and other public flag days. Then the Norwegian flag will apply in municipalities.

‘The flagging rules for public holidays will remain in effect’, said Sanner.
