Parliament will consider a new ethics law that would give consumers more information about how clothing sold in Norway is produced, writes the newspaper Aftenposten.

“We know that many consumers are aware and want more information so they can take ethically correct choice,” Geir Jørgen Bekkevold, the first deputy head of the Family and Culture Committee, said.
He proposes the development of a new ethics law together with parliamentary representatives from both the MDG and the Centre parties. The law would require transparency about how goods are produced so that consumers could avoid goods produced in areas with low wages, overtime pressure, poor security, and a lack of respect for unions.
Labor, Left, and Right say they will support an investigation, but have some reservations. Ib Thomsen says the Progress Party supports the proposal.
“But we believe such a law must take into account the companies’ competitive situation,” she says.
