Lofotodden is the name of the country’s 40th national park in Lofoten,in the municipalities of Moskenes and Flakstad.

Parts of the protected area are popular tourist destinations and are used extensively for outdoor activities. 86 square kilometres of land area are covered by the park, while 13 square kilometres is sea area.

‘’Lofotodden National Park is some of the most beautiful coastal landscape we have. We are ensuring this area for future generations.

The new national park has landscapes and natural habitats that are not found in other Norwegian protected areas. We take care of the distinctive and unique landscapes with tall canopies surrounded by open sea areas and deep fjords,” said climate and environmental minister, Ola Elvestuen of Venstre (V).

The initiative for protection came from Moskenes and Flakstad, said Elvestuen.

“I hope the national park will give the municipalities a great opportunity to develop the local tourism in a good and sustainable way,” said Elvestuen.
