“Safe Mamma Medicine” is a new public and free telephone service where pregnant and nursing ladies can get answers to their questions.
– We find that many pregnant and breastfeeding woman are afraid that the drugs they use could be dangerous for their child – even when using “regular” medicines that are considered safe, says pharmacist and consultant at Safe Mamma Medicine, Helle Tjønn Lindland.
There are pharmacists and doctors employed by the regional drug information centers, organized under the university hospitals, who will answer questions on the new phone service.
The service has since 2011 existed as a website, but now it will also be possible to call for information. The service is operated with funding from the Ministry of Health.
– By talking to women, we can more easily meet the concern of the individuals, ensure that we get all the information we need and thus provide a more specific and tailored response, said Lindland.
