NOAS and Save the Children are critical to the Immigration conducting tests of the age of minors. The organizations claim this is against the law.

According to newspaper Aftenposten the two organizations write in the report “Over or under 18?”  that the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) are doing radiographic tests of the hands of all asylum seekers who say they are between 15 and 18 years and that this has been the situation since last November.
The Immigration Act stipulates that medical age-test may be performed if there is doubt about the age of asylum seekers. NOAS and Save the Children believe the law requires that there has to be doubts about the age of individuals because of a specific, individual assessment if these tests are to be done and that that doubts about the age of a whole group is not sufficient reason for making tests and in fact is illegal under the current laws.
” The UDI practice of making radiographic tests of everyone who claim to be unaccompanied minors between 15 and 18 is against the law,” they write in the report.
The area manager Line Schei Mogen Stad in UDI’s asylum department defends the practice, pointing out that the actual age of many of the young asylum seekers is in doubt, since most arrive without any identification papers.
