Norwegian citizen, Torkil Tyvold, has now been missing in Rio de Janeiro for over a week.

Tyvold was posted in Brazil for Norsk Hydro. He was last seen on Friday over a week ago in the district where he lives,Ipanema, in Rio de Janeiro.

“Unfortunately, there is nothing new to report,” said information manager, Øyvind Breivik, of Norsk Hydro in a text message to NTB news on Sunday.

A politician in Brazil has stated to NRK that the police’s main theory is that Tyvold has been taken by the waves when he bathed in the sea.

Surveillance images from Friday 25th of May indicate that Tyvold was going to the beach.

‘’On a recording from a surveillance camera in his apartment block,we see him walking out of the building wearing beach clothes. This is the last trace of Tyvold, and we assume he was heading down to Ipanema Beach, which is close to the residence,’’ said an anonymous police source to NRK before the weekend.

There was strong wind and high waves the night he disappeared.

Colleagues in Norsk Hydro have handed out leaflets with a picture of him in the hope that it could help.

Tyvold is from Røros. He has been employed by Hydro since the 1980s and has been posted in Brazil since the New Year.
