The ten-day long anniversary trip along the coast is one of the highlights of the year for the royal couple. During their 25 years on the throne they have visited more than 400 places in Norway.
The contact with people is very important for King Harald and Queen Sonja in their work, and they wanted this to be the starting point for the anniversary year and all the forthcoming events. When they embark on their anniversary trip on Saturday, there will be an opportunity for people all along the coast to see the Royal Yacht ‘Norge’, and in six cities there will be garden parties and folk festivals.
The journey begins with a garden party for 300 invited guests at “Skansen” in Tromsø on Saturday morning, with a big folk event on the main square in the city later on. The road then leads to Kristiansand , and Bodø, Trondheim, Bergen and Stavanger will also get a visit. The royal family will also visit Trondheim where there will be a celebratory service of worship in the Nidaros Cathedral on 23 June , to commemorate the coronation exactly 25 years ago.
