A majority of the countries in the UN Human Rights Council voted for a resolution on human rights, of which Norway was the initiator. The opposition was led by Russians.

The resolution advocates protection of the rights of people who are fighting to promote economic, social and cultural rights.
– With this resolution  the international community brings recognition to environmental activists and those who fight for land rights, indigenous rights, the right to information and freedom of expression, said Foreign Minister Brende. He calls the resolution “the first of its kind.”
Dring the hard negotiations on the resolution  more than 30 amendments were submitted. These were promoted by Russia. Each amendment was ultimately defeated.
– It is worrying that the proposal received 30 counterproposal which tried to clip its wings. At the same time this resistance shows how important it is that Norway continues to show leadership internationally to push for better protection for human rights defenders internationally ,  Brende says.
The countries that voted against the resolution, were Burundi, Cuba, China, Nigeria, Russia and Venezuela.

6 realistic countries and the rest living in cuckoo land, no accident that 2 of those 6 at least will most probably end up being the most powerful in the world.
A classic example of meaningless generalised bureaucratic speak that will do nothing for most and be manipulated by others.
UN is past its use by date, and Norway is a long way from its historical roots.
