Norway increases its contribution to the Global Fund for fighting aids, tuberculosis and malaria to 2 billion dollars for the period 2017 to 2019,  foreign minister Børge Brende says.

The Global Fund for fighting aids, tuberculosis and malaria has since 2002 helped save more than 20 million human lives, “ Brende said in a press release.

Parliamentary Under-Secretary Tone Skogen announced the Norwegian contribution during the Fund’s replenishment Conference in Montreal. The goal is to save an additional 8 million human lives by the end of 2019.

“We are on the right path in the fight to eradicate the epidemics aids , tuberculosis and malaria, but in order to reach the goal, we need to strengthen the efforts of  the entire world community.

Financial support is essential, but  the political will to combat prejudice and discrimination is equally important  “,  Brende said.
