Norway will provide another 60 million to the EU’s multi-donor fund to deal with migration in Africa.
The new funds will be distributed to the countries of Sahel and the countries around Chad,North Africa, and the Horn of Africa.
Norway has already contributed NOK 80 million to the same fund.
‘’Poverty, unemployment, and poor governance are among the causes of migration. The countries of Europe must cooperate with the countries of origin and transit on the management of migration and refugee crises. At the same time we must fight organised crime and human trafficking,” said Foreign Minister,Ine Eriksen Søreide of Høyre (H) in a press release.
The EU’s multi-donor fund will help to strengthen African country’s ability to handle migration. Job creation, conflict prevention,stabilization measures, reintegration of returned migrants,and humanitarian measures targeted at particularly vulnerable migrant groups are among the Fund’s most important areas of action.
So far in 2018, approximately 86,000 migrants have come to Europe from Africa.
