Norway is at the top of a list that ranks 142 countries in the world according to how wealthy and prosperous they are.

The Prosperity index is compiled by the British think tank Legatum Institute and ranks the country in eight main categories, writes VG. Norway is not at the top of any of thes main categories, but is the only country that is among the top ten in all of the categories. Despite Norway  dropping on the rankings of some of these categories, it ends up in first place when they are all added up. Just like last year and the five preceding years.
Economy, social capital and personal freedom, safety and security and the level of satisfaction with the government are areas where Norwat are a bit lower in the rankings than a year ago. However, Norway moves one position in the categories of entrepreneurship and health. Norway remains in fifth place when it comes to education, according to the Legatum assessment.
All the Nordic countries are among the twelve best on the list, with Denmark the highest placed of our neighbors  in third place. Switzerland is in second place. Like many other similar awards, this also has Australia, New Zealand and Canada among the top ten.
The three least prosperous and successful countries in the world are the Central African Republic, Afghanistan and Haiti, according to the Legatum index .
