An employee at the Norwegian embassy in Athens will exchange their diplomatic license plates on his car in fear of attacks and burglary. Several embassies have done the same, in the area.

The Norwegian embassy justifies the desire in a letter to Greek authorities that the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked its ambassadors to avoid “unnecessary exposure”, writes Dagens Næringsliv.

“During the past year, protesters have attacked an increasing number of diplomatic vehicles. The employee parks the car in front of his house in a relatively remote area. Given frequent burglaries, a diplomat car can attract unwanted guests,” the embassy wrote in the letter.

It was in Turkey where they began to stop using the blue diplomatic vehicle license plate. Since then, Germany and France have done the same, while according to the newspaper, both the United States, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands have reduced their use, as well.
