The equipment sent to Southeast Africa when Norway turned off the FM network will help spread information about a new ban on child abuse in Malawi.

Norkring, which operates the FM network in Norway, according to Dagbladet newspaper, paid 90,000 kroner transporting 14 FM transmitters and associated equipment and cables from Norway to Malawi.

These will be for the use of Radio Timveni, a radio and television station for youth.

‘’They have consignments 12 hours each day. Today, Radio Timveni covers around 60% of the country, but with 14 new transmitters, the coverage will be close to 100 %. Thus, all children in Malawi could listen to the important channel,”said communications manager, Siv Meisingseth, of Plan Norge to Dagbladet.

She recalled that child welfare is among the biggest obstacles to schooling, freedom and equality for girls in poor countries, saying that the radio channel should spread information that the country has recently amended the law, and introduced a ban on child abuse.
