Norwegian police have developed a method for scientifically based questioning. Now they want the UN to propose it as the global standard for police questioning.

According to uniforum  the UN special rapporteur on torture, Juan Mendez, will present this proposal to the UN General Assembly on 18 October.

He will suggest that the method investigative interview will become the new international model for police questioning, rather than the traditional interrogation method where the goal is to get the suspect to confess at any cost.

Countries such as Indonesia and Vietnam are already in the process of introducing the new standard for police questioning.

– It is a result of human rights dialogue which Norway has engaged in with  these countries through a unique collaboration between the Police Academy and  Norwegian Centre for Human Rights at the University of Oslo, says doctor of law and police detective Asbjørn Rachlew, who has developed the method for Norwegian police.
