Cuts to the Norwegian media industry

The Norwegian media industry has implemented cuts of over one billion Nok over the past two years. Over the next few years it is planning to cut a further  billion Nok from their budgets.

This year alone, as many as 500 people have left the media industry, writes the newspaper Dagens Næringsliv.
– There are challenging times and many difficult decisions ahead, says CEO Randi S. Øgrey at the Media Businesses’ Association (MBL).
Tuesday it became clear that TV 2 will cut costs by 350 million Nok  up until 2020. Sources told the newspaper that at least 150 employees could be affected.
In addition, there are planned cuts totaling NOK 605 million in the media houses Schibsted, Polaris Media, Discovery, Aller (Dagbladet), Discovery and NHST (Dagens Næringsliv).
NRK has since 2014 reduced its workforce by 330 fulltime positons, and this year there will be a further loss of  50 jobs. Overall NRK has cut costs to the tune of 400 million since 2012.
