Norwegian Vectron Biosolutions has developed a new production technology for proteins. Now the pharmaceutical industry has become aware of the technology.

Proteins used therapeutically, are so complex and must be produced with such high precision that ordinary chemical methods can not be used, wrote Teknisk Ukeblad.

– A protein can consist of thousands of atoms strung together in a very specific way. Small changes in the location of these atoms may lead to proteins that do not work, or at worst give strong side effects, explains founder Trond Erik Vee Aune. The company has developed technology that allows living cells to be manipulated to produce the proteins they need.

In addition, Aune said it took many years of long-term efforts to establish contracts with the pharmaceutical industry. the first contract took seven years. The entrepreneur hopes to contribute both to make known drugs cheaper and that he can develop new ones because the cost will be lower.

– Pet medications are a major global health problem. Even in wealthy Norway, some protein-based medicines are unavailable because they are too expensive to purchase. With our technology pharma companies could cut prices without losing profits, he said.
