Norwegian woman found dead in Majorca

A woman from Bergen has been found dead in an apartment in Majorca. Spanish police are investigating the death as suspicious.

The woman was found on Monday in an apartment in Palma. The police are looking for a man she left with. According to Bergens Tidende, the woman is from Bergen.

– The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aware that a Norwegian citizen has been found dead in Spain. The relatives are notified, said press guard Astrid Sehl in UD VG.

The newspaper has been in contact with local police, who did not wish to comment on the matter.

Bergen Police confirm that they have been approached about the death.

– We have received information about it, and have been involved with notifying the relatives. We received the request from the Spanish police through Kripos, said operations manager Lars Geitle from the Western Police District to Bergens Avisen.

According to local newspaper, the women was a 61-year-old Norwegian tourist. She was found on Monday in an apartment she lived in with her partner, writes the newspaper, describing the death as “violent and bloody.” The police was initially having difficulties with identifying the woman, as the tourist apartment she was found in, allegedly was rented under another name.

The investigators Diario de Mallorca have spoken to; assume the woman died Saturday night or early Monday morning. The woman will be autopsied during the morning and the police will keep all options open in the investigation, the newspaper said.
