The fish are back in the Aker River in Oslo, and it’s full steam ahead for the population to try fishing.
After 6,000 liters of chlorine leaked into the Aker River in 2011, most marine ecology died there. Just south of this Oslo Fish Management (OFA) has since put out about 700,000 salmon and sea trout fry in the river and benthic has gradually returned and given food for fish.
– It is 30 years since the river could offer good fishing for salmon and sea trout. This 2016 season looks promising, says Bjørn Torp, CEO of OFA.
OFA has by fishery or video surveillance been able to document a startling increase of fish in the river.
Among the lucky selected people to try their luck fishing at the official opening of fishing for salmon and sea trout, the mayor Marianne Borgen and Environment Minister Vidar Helgesen.
To get the endangered crayfish back OFA has also moved about 150 kg of crayfish from Maridalsvannet to the river.
