NPRA fears many fatalities this summer

NPRA fears that as many as 50 people will die in traffic during the summer months. During the first half of this year 63 were killed on the roads – 16 more than the same time last year.

16 people were killed just  in June and this is nine more than the same month last year. And  six people lost  their lives just in the first four days of July .

– We have no immediate explanation,  Rita Helen Aarvold – who are working on road safety in the NPRA, says.
In a press release  the Public Roads Administration informs that they fear around 1,700 traffic accidents causing up 50 fatalities in the summer. Statistics show that one out of three fatal accidents on the roads occur in the three summer months.

–  There are many accidents, often with serious consequences, in summer traffic. Increased traffic means increased risk. Those of us who are travelling on the roads all have a joint responsibility to contribute to road safety,  Aarvold says.
A review of the summer traffic in June, July and August the last five years shows that on  49 people  average have been  killed, and that around 2,000 people will be injured in June, July and August.
