The number of estimated asylum seekers is going down again

Norwegian immigration authorities think there will be 10,750 asylum seekers coming to Norway this year which is 14,000 fewer than estimated number in revised budget.

After three weeks in June there have been about 1,600 asylum seekers came to Norway so far this year, according to the Directorate of Immigration (UDI).

The forecast for the number of asylum seekers coming to Norway determined Calculation group for immigration administration (BGU) four times a year. BGU states that there is great uncertainty.
The BGUs June report is considering a probability that there will be between 4,000 and 25,000 asylum seekers this year.

To ensure that the budget is covering all situations there shall be some assumption made based on the number of estimated arrivals therefore it is considered most likely that there will be 10,000 asylum seekers coming to Norway.

In addition, it is estimated that there will be an estimated 750 asylum seekers to be relocated from Greece and Italy to Norway.

Forecasts for asylum arrivals are made based on analyzes made by the UDI, the police and other relevant stakeholders in the immigration field.

The analysis is based partly on information about the conditions of transit and origin, previous year’s seasonal variation, border crossings, itineraries and country composition of arrivals to Europe and measures in the EU and European countries.
