The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet has found new ways to increase revenue. On Saturday  the Opera closed both its doors and its roof, so that the venue could be used for a private wedding.

It is the first time the Opera is being used for such an event, and the institution does not deny that they  leased the buliding for the wedding because they need the money, according to NRK.
– I do not think this will be an everyday occurrence. This building has primarily been used for and will still primarily be used for  opera and ballet performances,  marketing and communications director of the cultural institution ,Kenneth Fredstie, says.
Just before midnight  fireworks were sent up from the Opera while guests enjoyed themselves both on the inside and on the roof.
In 2014 the Opera had an operating loss of NOK 14 million, while the accounts for last year show a loss of NOK 67 million.
Opera won’t say how much it cost to rent the entire building for one day.
